Barbara, Team Lead, Client Service Co-ordinator

Barbara began working at the front desk as a Client Service Specialist in 2013. Barbara graduated from the University of NC in Greensboro with a major in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education. After retiring from teaching school in Burlington, NC for 23 years, she moved to the High Country to live in the place her father called “God’s Country”. After moving the Boone, Barbara worked as a receptionist for one of the area’s churches. She brought her pets to Dr. Kreis for several years before she decided that she wanted to join this very special veterinary family. Barbara loves working with and helping people – and she adores four-legged furry babies. ANRVA is her happy place! Since she joined the team, Barbara has developed lots of special friendships with many of our clients and their fur babies. Her goal is to make a difference and to help ANRVA to be as positive a place for others as it was for her when she was a client years ago. Barbara’s greatest love is for her two children, Brittany and Michael, and her 3 four-legged babies (Jiggs, Bella, and Dinky). They are all her pride and joy! In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family and friends, travel, listen to music, and read.

Hannah, Client Service Representative

Hannah Tolbert joined the ANRVA team in 2018 as a client service representative. She works with us part time while being a full time student at App majoring in Healthcare Management. She has a four year old English yellow lab and a ten year old lab mix at home. She also has a thirteen year old American Quarter horse that lives at her mom’s farm. Hannah has an A.A. S. in Veterinary Medical Technology from Central Carolina Community College. She enjoys being a CSR because it allows her the chance to work with clients and their pets. In her limited free time she enjoys reading, watching Netflix, taking her dogs walking on the Parkway and trail riding at Moses Cone with her horse.

Kristen, Client Service Representative

Kristen Masencup began working at ANRVA in June of 2019 as a client service representative. She is currently working on a Bachelors Degree in Communications and a minor in management at Appalachian State. She loves her job and looks forward to coming in everyday. She says it makes her feel good to know that she is doing her part in supporting the owner who wants the best for their pets. Kristen has a cat, Doobie, and two dogs Sage (a beagle/blue heeler) and Whiskey (a lab/boxer). All three have their own crazy personalities! Growing up in Morganton, NC, she has always had a passion for the mountains, which is why Boone was the perfect choice for her to live and enjoy her hobbies of fly fishing and hiking with her dogs.

Deena, Registered Veterinary Technician – Team Leader

Deena has been a member of the team at ANRVA 3 times! Originally joining the practice in 1995, she took sabbatical to work in Emergency and Specialty practices – and most recently rejoined the team in 2010. She enjoys supporting the innovative approach to care provided at ANRVA. Deena graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Animal and Veterinary Science and also earned her A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology from Fairmont State College. She has been a veterinary technician for 35 years, working in private practice, Emergency and Specialty practice, and Veterinary Teaching Hospitals. Deena also has the honor of serving as an instructor for a Veterinary Technician program. At a young age, Deena realized that animals do not judge; they accept you as you are. She wanted to return that loyalty be caring for them. She enjoys seeing the world through animals’ eyes and being the best advocate possible for them. Deena has been married to her husband Mike for 36 years – and still going strong! They share their home with four dogs (Elcee – age 15, Chloe – age 13, Alleigh – age 3, Abbee – age 3), three cats (Sparkie- age 14, TC – age 10, Isaiah – age 3), a chinchilla (Cheech – age 11), and several Koi fish (age 1). When not at work, Deena enjoys hiking, cutting/splitting firewood, and just hanging out in the woods listening/watching wildlife, clouds, and wind in the trees.
